 Township Supervisor

The Supervisor is frequently the first official contacted about any business and/or complaint related to the Township, and is often perceived as the township spokesperson. It must be realized, however, that the authority of the Supervisor is limited to that provided by statute or delegated by the township board. As the township supervisor, he must manage the Township affairs by supervising the diverse departments that are responsible for meeting the needs of the township citizens

Supervisor duties and responsibilities:

  • The Supervisor is the Chief Assessing Officer and is ultimately responsible for the duties of the Assessing Department.
  • Maintains enforcement of all laws and ordinances of the Township.
  • To manage and supervise all public improvements, works and undertakings of the Township (i.e. water, sewer, drains, street lights, etc…)
  • Functions as primary Personnel Officer for the Township.
  • Is accountable to all township residents and property owners.

Timothy J. (Tim) Hudson

Tim is a life-long resident of Comstock Township, Michigan.  Following graduation from Comstock High School in 1971, he went to work in the construction trade, both residential and commercial, earning his license as a Michigan building contractor.  In 1978, Tim joined the Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) where he held positions including, equipment operator, track foreman and rail inspector.

In 1989, Tim began his involvement in township government when he was appointed to the Comstock Township Planning Commission, a position he held for seven years until his election to the post of township supervisor in 1996.  During his tenure, Tim served for two years as chairman of the commission.

During the three terms Tim has served as supervisor, the township has enjoyed steady growth in both the commercial and residential sectors.  Also, during this period, he wrote for, and was awarded, a $3 million Federal Community Development Block Grant for the re-development of the 2.4 million square-foot former General Motors stamping plant in Comstock Township.  As expansion has continued at the facility, there has been a corresponding rise in employment opportunities.  The efforts of the township administration have been instrumental in the creation of one of Kalamazoo County’s premiere, multi-tenant industrial complexes – the Midlink Business Park.

Tim has served for the past 12 years as the township’s representative to the Kalamazoo Area Transportation Study (KATS), and as chairman for one term.  Also, he has been a member of the Kalamazoo Regional Water and Wastewater Commission since its inception in 1999 and serves as the current chair.

Tim is an avid local historian and genealogist and has authored a number of articles for various publications.  He enjoys serving the residents of Comstock Township and working with the community at large to improve inter-governmental relations throughout the region.
