Comstock Township Treasurer

My name is Bret Padgett and I am the Treasurer for the Charter Township of Comstock. I was elected to my first term on November 6, 2012.

I was born and raised here in Comstock Township and come from a family dedicated to public service. My grandmother was a school bus driver and my grandfather was high school head custodian, both for Comstock Public Schools. My grandfather was also a fire fighter, along with my father, for Comstock Fire and Rescue. While the schools and fire department were not my calling, I wanted to continue the history of public service in my family. My skills and education led me to run for Treasurer of Comstock Township. My priority is to serve the best interests of the Township and those who call it home.

I graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School in 1995 and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University in 2002, with an accounting major. Since taking office I have earned the following designations: Certified Public Funds Investment Manager and Certified Public Finance Administrator from the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (APT US&C), Michigan Certified Professional Treasurer from the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association (MMTA) and Township Governance Academy graduate from the Michigan Townships Association (MTA).

I serve on the Board of Directors for Public Media Network (see below) and chair the Street Light Committee. Additionally, I am a member of the Legislative and Membership Committees for the MMTA, clerk for the Kalamazoo County Treasurers Association and treasurer for the Kalamazoo County chapter of the MTA.
